Ten years of Broken Head Coastal Corridor restoration!
The Broken Head Locality group has a current Environmental Trust Restoration and Rehabilitation grant that includes seven properties between Piccadilly Hill and Broken Head mainly focusing on restoring and replanting riparian vegetation along Midgen Creek. The project seeks to further enhance a vital wildlife corridor that spans from the coastal areas of Broken Head to Coopers Shoot ridge, including the secluded Hogans Bluff Big Scrub rainforest remnant.
Project Goals and Implementation:
- Wildlife Corridor Enhancement: The focus of Stage 3 is on improving the condition and connectivity of the corridor, ensuring safe passage and thriving habitats for native species across seven properties in the Midgen Creek catchment area.
- Conservation Activities: Key activities include fencing, assisted natural regeneration, and strategic plantings designed to enhance water quality and provide essential habitats for threatened species.
- Climate Resilience: By enhancing ecosystem health and connectivity, the project also aims to mitigate the impacts of climate change, ensuring the long-term sustainability of local natural environments.
Continuing a Legacy of Success:
This phase of the project expands upon the achievements of the initial stages (Stage 1: 2014-2017 and Stage 2: 2018-2021). The success of earlier stages has inspired additional local landholders, encouraging them to participate and support the ongoing efforts to protect this critical ecological area.
