Empowering Landowners to Thrive in a Changing Climate

Our Climate Resilient Landscapes project provides essential guidance for landowners in the Northern Rivers Region on adapting their properties to the challenges of climate change using native plants. This initiative includes a detailed 40-page guide and a live demonstration garden at Brunswick Valley Heritage Park, offering practical and visually engaging examples of sustainable garden design.

Climate Resilient Landscapes – A Planting Guide for the Northern Rivers Region

Guide Overview:
  • Practical Advice: Learn how to design and plan gardens using native plants that are not only beautiful but also resilient in our changing climate. This booklet perfectly compliments our popular “My Local Native Garden Guide.”
  • Targeted Strategies: The booklet offers targeted advice for creating landscapes that can withstand climate variability and promote sustainability.

See the Impact in Real Life:
  • Demonstration Garden: Visit the Climate Resilient demonstration garden at Brunswick Valley Heritage Park, Maslen Arboretum in Mullumbimby. Here, you can see firsthand the effectiveness of the strategies outlined in the guide, illustrated through a garden that has thrived over the past two years despite numerous environmental challenges.
  • Volunteer Contributions: This garden is planted and meticulously cared for by our dedicated volunteers, showcasing the practical application of the guide’s recommendations.

Funding and Support:

This project has been made possible thanks to the support from the NSW Government through its ‘Increasing Resilience to Climate Change’ (IRCC) community grants. This funding has allowed us to not only develop the guide but also implement its teachings in a real-world setting, demonstrating the practical benefits and beauty of climate-resilient gardening.

Visit and Learn:

We invite all interested landowners, gardeners, and conservationists to visit the demonstration garden, obtain a copy of the guide, and start applying these vital strategies to their own properties. Whether you’re looking to update an existing garden or start a new project, this guide provides the tools and knowledge you need to succeed in a changing climate.

By adopting the practices recommended in “Climate Resilient Landscapes,” you can help ensure that your property not only survives but thrives, regardless of the climatic challenges ahead. Join us in taking proactive steps towards sustainable and resilient landscaping in the Northern Rivers region.
